“Been going here for 6-7 years with good experiences every time.”
“fast service and excellent advice. really appreciate the help Steves!”
“Stopped here for a oil change. Took my info down and got my car in. Really quick service. Will return”
“I thought they were friendly and helpful. They were more than willing to take a look at my car and give me a quote for repairs. I ended up finding a much better price at a different shop for my repairs but I appreciated them being so nice in helping me diagnose the problem when I stopped in with no appointment.”
“Great guys, fast and reliable service.”
“I've been using Steves tire on 34th Ave. for over 20 years. They have worked on all of my families cars. Now that I live in tangletown, I am so glad they have a shop over here. Thank you Rollie for the great service.”
“Best staff around. Quick, respectful and trustworthy”
“I was luckily referred to Steve's Tire and Auto on 46th and Nicollet for an oil change on my Class C RV. I experienced very friendly, fast, excellent service! They checked pressure on all 6 tires and cleaned my front windshield and side windows with the oil change, which I greatly appreciated! I will definitely refer my friends and family here and I, most certainly will be back!”
“Just stopped in to Steve's at 46th/Nic with a tire slow leak. The team was able to handle it, not a serious problem but one I needed fixed on the spot. The tire had a finishing nail that needed to be pulled and the tire patched. Thanks guys for making the time to fix it in under an hours time.”
“Just had Dave take care of my check engine light. He said it was a vague code and he would clear the code so my engine light goes away. NO CHARGE! I appreciate the honesty, the kindness and information I was provided. I've had a few repairs done there, and they are reasonably priced. They also have treats for my dog. A+ auto repair shop.”
“Car broke down late Saturday night. Got it towed to the recommended store by AAA, which was Steve's. I had never been there before. Called first thing Monday morning at 7:00 am and they were very friendly and nice. Told me they'd call me back in a few hours with a diagnostic, which they did. When they called back they told me the repairs I needed, how much it costs, and other optional things I could do my car. I agreed and they were done by 3:00pm! I was very impressed. Very nice customer service people and it was super easy to pick up my car from there.”
“I've been going here for oil changes for about two years. Decently priced and you can usually get back on the road in about 30 minutes even without an appointment. They don't try to upsell you nearly as bad as the national chains I've been to in the past. One of my low beams burned out yesterday and with the -20 wind chill there was no way I was going to replace the bulbs in my non-heated garage. Steve's Tire and Auto (Nicollet) charged me half of what one of the national chains quoted me. I called, went in, and was finished in less than an hour. Totally worth it. (review also posted on Yelp)”
“My experience at Steve's Tire and Auto was great! The staff and environment was very friendly. I went in for an oil change and was greeted right as I got there. The process was very quick and easy. The staff brought to my attention something very important my last automotive shop should have noticed. I will be continuing my automotive care here for sure.”
“These are my go to guys! They have had awesome service and very knowledgable mechanics for many years. To say the least, they know what they're doing! I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking to get their car checked out.”
“I have taken my vehicles to Steves Tire and Auto for years I have had questions about the work that needed to be done and asked them to show me the parts that needed replacement. They have ALWAYS helped me to understand the repair and have shown the old part and explained why it was/went bad I have always felt comfortable with with the work they have done with my vehicle. Thankyou for your patience Keep up the great work”
“I always receive excellent service at Steve's. They are my go-to for servicing my vehicles. Trustworthy and reliable!”
“My experience at Steves Tire & Auto was spectacular. Very friendly and professional.”
“If you want you oil changed right and not by some 19 year old who has no clue of how a car operates, TAKE IT TO STEVE'S!”
“I love these guys!!! They are always professional, courteous and explain everything to me. I started going to them because AAA recommended them after I moved to the area. When I need an oil change they have the fast drive thru oil change lanes, they let me know if they see any problems. They show me what they are talking about and explain in plain english what I need. I've always had good service. Thanks for keeping my car going! As long as I live here I will go here and I tell all my friends to go here. They are good people.”
“It's hard to find someone you can trust but these are the guys. They stand behind their work and have always been honest. Would and have recommended.”
“Always super friendly service, and they actually seem to know what they're doing... the only place I go now”
“If I could give these guys 10 stars I would. They are honest, friendly, always have a fair price, and tell you exactly what they are doing, what is wrong with your car, and why (why not), it should be fixed. These guys have saved me $1000s!!!! I will be a loyal customer to the end...you should be too!”
“I'm a DIY guy, so I usually only bring in my BMW if there's some tricky job that I can't figure out or if I don't have enough time to do it. Unlike a lot of other shops, these guys are really respectful of that and are willing to do just the few things I ask without trying to pressure me into additional repairs or tests. They have always accurately diagnosed obscure noises and leaks on the first attempt, they've always done the work quickly and for a reasonable price.”
“The in-take staff noted the symptoms I reported on my truck, which seemed to point to a failing transmission. I was not looking forward to the diagnosis, repair, or bill. A short time later, I was given a diagnosis of a failing catalytic converter, which was causing engine hesitation under load, which would have felt like a slipping transmission. I agreed to the repair, and in addition asked them to take a look at another issue on the exhaust manifold that I knew about, but did not want to do myself. Both the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold were replaced/repaired with-in estimate and on time. While not cheap, the cost was reasonable for the type and amount of work that needed to be done. I'm quite happy with the repairs and the trucks performance since the repairs. Additionally, there were a couple other items noted that should be taken care of, and an estimate of repair given. There was no pressure to get the repairs done immediately or even at their place. Just a, "let us know if we can help". This was much appreciated. In fact, the repairs were something I could do myself, and have since successfully completed these repairs. Thank you to the staff and mechanics at Steve's”
“I am a very customer service focused person. Having spent years fielding incoming calls on a customer service help line and as a part time sales associate in retail, I know from good customer service. I have rather high standards for myself when it comes to helping others and providing exceptional personal service. When I run across people who embody such natural service personalities, I take note. It happens every time I visit Steve's Tire & Auto.”
“Friendly staff! went in on a busy day (right befoe Christmas), but they did their best. nice waiting area, but no WiFi.”
“Just brought my car in for an over heat. Found the problem right away and had me in and out within a couple hours. Great work, Great staff, and a Very reasonable price.”
“Seriously, the BEST experience I've ever had with an Auto shop. Communication was excellent & service was prompt. Couldn't be happier with my experience.”
“Clean, friendly neighborhood mechanic.”
“Very friendly, fast service, extremely reasonable pricing. Wont try to sell you something you don't need. They're excellent.”
“Awesome experience from start to finish. I worked with a man named Chris and he was exceptional in every way. This has now become my go-to auto repair shop in Minneapolis!”
“Folks, these guys are a little spendy but they are worth every penny.”
“I went to Steve's Tire & Auto for a tire repair because they're one of the few auto shops that had a good review and answered their phone at 8AM on Saturday! The front desk help was very respectful and friendly. The waiting room was clean and welcoming - they offered coffee or hot water for tea to drink and had snacks such as animal crackers and home made cookies out for customers! I'm not sure how their prices compare for larger jobs, but my tire repair was very comparable to anywhere else.”
“Best auto repair shop in Minneapolis. Fair prices and honest work.”
“I have been using Steve's Tire and Auto on 34th Ave S for about 30 years, since I moved into the neighborhood. I have found them to always be fair and honest in their dealings, and have been going back to them every time I needed any assistance or advice. I highly recommend them to anyone in the area.”
“I had an issue with my intake manifold. They were prompt and the service price was pretty much inline with the competition. The day after they completed service, an o2 sensor went on the fritz (which can happen with this type of repair). Raleigh, the service manager and the mechanic went out of their way to apologize for the return trip and made sure that my service experience was great. They corrected the issue and repaired a burnt out tail light for free. I'll be bringing my car there for all of my repairs from now on.”
“Have to recommend this place!!!! after taking my Tahoe to Lupient, Lupient advised me to have my water pump replaced because it was leaking, and quoting $660 for the repair. I brought my Tahoe to Steve's for a second opinion. Steve's Tire and Auto quoted 10% less for the same repair and after looking at the vehicle determined that there is a slight leak, but that it doesn't need to be replaced immediately. It's nice to know that there are still honest people out there that care about Customer Service these days. Steve's Tire and Auto you have earned a new 'lifelong' customer. Will recommend to everyone I know.”
“Friendly, reliable service from a neighborhood service station- were they will acually get to know your name”
“These guys always take great care of me. Prices are a little on the higher side but they are honest, fast, and always make sure to get me all the information and then let me decide how best to move forward. I feel. Confident in what they do and am happy to refer them to anyone looking for a great shop. Hope you find the same service from the team”
“Always come here for my oil changes and continuously receive great customer service, honest recommendations, and quick returns. If you do have to wait, just pop across the street and enjoy a delicious treat at Sun Street.”
“Excellent customer service, clear communication. The prices are higher than I'd like, but that's just part of owning a car. I think they overstate their estimates a bit which is great. They manage expectations well. Never had the actual work cost more than the estimate. They are also timely in repairs. Highly recommended.”
“Steves' did a really nice thing this weekend for my daughter. Her car had a tire with low air, she took her car to Steves to have the low tire checked out. Appears the issue was just the tire needed more air, no repairs necessary. Steves technicians helped out by filling the tire to proper pressure, and did not charge her anything, even for checking out the tire. For a dad who wasn't here to help check out these things, I was really glad Steves took the time to help my daughter out. Thanks guys, I cannot recommend you enough!”
“First experience, and what a great one.
Two poor experiences with other shops led me to Steve's via recommendation from a colleague. I was visiting family for Christmas when my friend brought my car into the shop.
Chris from Steve's was in touch with me through every step of the process. He'd call up to twice a day to update me on progress, his recommendations, and EVEN offering to take a photo and email me the image of the shoddy work the previous mechanic company had done. Wow!
Clear, concise, honest communication from Chris. He let me know what else could be done to my car by priorities. Things like "tires look good, oil looks good, air filter could be changed, but that doesn't need it quite yet."
Much appreciated their honesty and fairness. These are my guys from now on.”
“I had feared the worst when I saw the thing that was once my tire, puddled up on the ground - completely flat. After getting the spare on I called around to multiple tire shops in the area and on a busy Friday afternoon Steve's was the only one who promised to get it done that night. As promised, I dropped it off and was called back in less than two hours with the good news that although my rim had been bent, they had fixed it, and my tire was a tire once again. On a busy cold Friday afternoon, I really appreciated Steve's friendliness, quick service and honesty when it came to fixing my car. Will definitely be coming back here if I ever have any future tire needs.”
“I've been going to Steve's for service for a year and a half. I wish I would have found them sooner, they save me so much time and money. Excellent service and quality.”
“First time here today with my not so awesome (but paid off!!) car. I needed an alignment badly. They explained everything and I left the car there. They called me later to give me an update. Bad news - frame had rusted out and the passenger control arm was half disconnected. Not cool. Needed a new sub frame - $1600. But, they knew enough to know that Hyundai ( I know, I know... But it's paid off) had a recall going for this exact issue for excessive rust and failure in this area. They called the local dealer for me and had them run the VIN. They found out that my car may be covered, but there was an issue proving my car was under the recall blanket. They took pics of the issue and emailed them to me to help me plead my case to Hyundai. They really went above and beyond to help me out.
When I dropped the car off, they made sure I understood that if it they found something wrong and I decided not to go with their shop for the repairs, there would still be a $42 fee for checking it out. That's fair. Their time and expertise is valuable. They didn't charge me. I insisted, and they still didn't take my money. They went out of their way to help me get $1600 worth of repairs paid for by Hyundai that they would not be seeing a dime from. That is truly killer. They just earned a customer for life. Much appreciated, gentlemen. You really turned a potentially not so awesome situation into a great experience. Cheers!”
“No B.S. Always honest. Nice guys. Ask you what you need, and they do it. Drive right up, usually don't have to wait more than 20-30 minutes for a standard oil change, no appointment needed.”
“Honest, quick service with integrity all in South Minneapolis.
I've been going to Steve's Tire and Auto for many years now and I'm always impressed with their honesty in the condition of my car. From routine oil chances to the occasional problem with my car they fix my car and offer affordable, realistic solutions. They never try to sell or up-sell you repairs you don't need.
Steve's a perfect choice for a routine oil change (no appointment necessary), a new battery, new brakes, a mechanical check-up or to seek a solution for something that just doesn't seem right happening with your car. Twice I've take my car to Steve's Tire & Auto after being to a different shop and they found problems the other shop had done and fix them for free! They work nicely with insurance companies.
Expect friendly service, a clean/relaxing lobby and reasonable pricing. There are a few coffee shops/bakery shops in the area to hang out while your car is fixed. And use bus 146 on the corner of Nicollet & 46th Street to quickly zoom downtown (10 mins or less!) after you drop your car off here in the morning.”
“Went into Steve's for an oil change 3 years ago:
-Told me battery was nearly dead = Richfield Honda put in an old used battery (seriously)
- The tires were bald and about to explode = Richfield Honda put Dunlap tires that were totally worn in 6 months
- They talked me out of a totally unnecessary plastic part that the dealer insisted I needed ($600 for a thing under my car that I knocked off when I wedged myself onto an ice shelf)
I now go to Steve's for all work: new tires, oil changes, freon for my a/c, etc.
Can you get work done cheaper somewhere else? sure. But I like having the piece of mind that things will be done right.
Going to Steve's is like having a long term bf vs a one night stand.”
“They have been great to me and my car. I've gotten new tires and oil changes here. They are always quick and honest. They don't try to sell you a million and a half things that you don't need. I would definitely recommend going here!”
“Went in this week for an oil change. Was done quickly and the staff was friendly and polite and not at all trying to up-sell us on anything. A nice waiting area as well. This will definitely be my new oil change place.”
“So the car I've had for 6 months or so came with a slow leak in the drivers side rear tire. The previous owner informed me of it, and that she tried to have it fixed but they couldn't find it. The tire was a once every few month fill up, so not too bad, but with the cold it got to the point that I was filling up the tire every few days. So I took it off my car, and brought it to Steve's.
I was greeted immediately, they took the tire from me before I told them what was wrong, and informed me they would call in 45min to an hour. Awesome.
They called, and I took the tire home. As I was unloading it, I noticed a screw embedded in my tire. Sad that they didn't get it, I drove back with the tire. I pointed out the glaringly obvious screw in my tire, and they said they could help me easily. I then told them I had been there not 5 minutes before.
The oil jockey got super embarrassed, and ran to get the tire worker. The tire worker came out, and instantly started to gaze in bewilderment at his mistake. He corrected a slow leak, but missed the screw. They took it back immediately and fixed it at no additional charge within ten minutes.
In a way, I am thankful of the screw up (pun partially intended). If they had found the screw first, the slow leak would still be there. Now I am hopefully fixed!”
“These guys saved me the other night! With most other shops closed, I limped my flat down there and had a great experience. I usually expect a non specialty shop to beat and scratch up every set of oversized wheels that come their way - these guys were total pro's. Honest, careful and reasonably priced.”
“Last Friday, the check engine light on my vehicle came on & I began experiencing "engine performance problems". The problem was, I was 60 miles north of Duluth when it happened. No cell phone reception! I managed to get my vehicle into the town of Two Harbors, where I pulled into the first service station I could find. They couldn't look at it for 3 hours. I was in despair. I had to be at work the next day. I called the dealer in Duluth. They gave me several options, but it basically boiled down to we won't be able to look at it until Monday or Tuesday next week.
So I called Tim Sandlin at Steve's Tire & Auto, 190 miles away in Minneapolis, & let him know of my predicament. He sprang into action on my behalf & made some calls. He told me to go to Danny's Auto Shop, ask for Eric, AND gave me directions to the shop. He told me to call him if I had any questions or problems while I was there (by the way, Danny's Auto Shop in Two Harbors also gave me excellent service).
Both Eric from Two Harbors & Tim from Minneapolis made phone calls to suppliers all over northern MN to try & find the needed part, but it wasn't going to be available until Monday. Tim spoke with Eric about what my vehicle needed & let me know that they were being fair with me. I can't even say how much I appreciated this! I should mention at this time that Tim brought this up as a maintenance issue back in October & I decided to defer it at that time. My VERY bad.
Travis, one of the auto technicians from Danny's, gave me a ride to Duluth that night where my husband picked me up. That saved us about 45 minutes of driving...again, very appreciated.
Today my vehicle is still in Two Harbors, repaired, road tested, & ready to go. My wonderful co worker & friend Beth is going to drive it back to Minneapolis for me.
I'd give Tim Sandlin, & Steve's Tire & Auto 10 stars if I could. Same with Eric Falk & Danny's Auto Shop (625 3rd Av. Two Harbors, 218-834-4524). Too bad I can't send them some Lake Harriet pizzas-they're going to have to settle for Pizza Hut. The kindness & customer service I received made this situation as pleasant as it could be.”
“Steve's is AWESOME! I was hating the fact that the engine light came on in my car knowing that some scammer auto shop would run with my pocket book but Steve (the owner) asked "did you put the gas cap on tight enough?" ...That sold me! Unfortunately it wasn't the gas cap but they were VERY reasonable with their pricing, fixed a few things with out charging extra and waived the diagnostic fees. PLUS they gave me a ride home so I wouldn't have to wait all day and then came and picked me up when it was finished. I love these guys - this was one of the best experiences I've had with mechanics. I'm a single woman who highly recommends this place.
Call before you drop your car off, they are in the process of building onto their shop and their in a temporary location (they said it would be finished April 2009)”
“Great local car shop. The lobby area has definitely been renovated since someone commented on it below. Service tech was great about explaining different service options to me and prices for each. I had questions about warning lights on my new-to-me Subaru Legacy and he walked me through each of them. I really appreciate honest car guys!
Also: website had coupon for an oil change that I had printed off and turned out not to be eligible for (I needed synthetic oil) and he gave me a discount anyway.”
“They do good work, you don't have to worry about being taken advantage of, they explain all options, give a recommendation and you choose. We usually drop off so I'm not really sure how fast they are but guessing they are quick. Anyone looking to get work done would make a good decision to go here.”
“Excellent, friendly shop. They even advise me when certain things (tires) are better bought elsewhere. They've done excellent, reasonably priced work on my Honda Element and Nissan Murano.”
“I'll echo what many have said about the service here.....these folks are amazing. I had a flat tire (screw stuck in it) and they were 30 mins from closing time. They stayed late to get me patched up and they did it with a genuine smile on their face.
I found my new shop!!”
“Great service. It was 7:30 on a week night when I realized an ice chunk had done some damage and that I was dragging a plastic guard. The guys working quickly volunteered to put it up on the lift and see what they could do. Rarely find people so willing to help out.”
“Rollie and his team came to the rescue again. Told me what I HAD to do and what I could defer for a while on my 17 year old crown vic. I drive them till they won't drive no more and it's handy to have a mechanic you can trust. 207,000 miles and going strong, well not strong, but with Steve's tire and Auto at my back maybe a while longer, before I will have to buy a "new" five year old vehicle/”
“So I'm a woman, a very young woman, and I know nothing about cars. My Dad always told me to let my husband deal with that stuff, but my husband and I are never off at the same time. Anyway, I take my car to another mechanic in St. Paul and the guy basically told me that they were too busy to even look at the car and then he stared at me until I left.
I thought this place would be out of my price range because it's small and local, but I'm glad I did. The person at the front desk asked me what was wrong, when I wanted it done, quoted me their standard rates, and offered to have someone drive me home. I have read reviews from here before so I knew they did something along those lines. Really nice guys. Won't go anywhere else! Affordable, fast, professional.”
“Great service and very speedy. I've come to these guys for several jobs and their always upfront and honest.
Recently I had to replace my exhaust system. They were able to save my converter, thereby saving me over $300.
They truly pride themselves on customer service and I've recommended their work to everyone I know.”
“Fixed a torn valve stem at the drop of a hat on a Sunday afternoon. Showed me where it got sliced. Zero jargon, zero BS, just friendly guys who get the job done!”
“Solid. Got me in on a Sunday morning when I was pretty sure they were too busy to deal with me. They fixed a flat tire quickly and I was on my way.”
“I agree with Cheery, very honest shop, never had a problem. Always able to get my car in quickly.”
“Steves does quality work. Their work comes in on the estimate, and they are genearlly able to get work done that day given their long hours, or by the next day. WE have had several cars as they aged serviced there and they have been very good to work with. In one case a part they put in failed about a year later (not their fault it was a defective part), under the mfgrs warranty they took care of the tow, the replacement part and labor and had us on the road again later that day. I don't think they are the cheapest around, but I don't worry about anything they do to our cars and I've never felt they were piling on "nice to haves" to run the bill up.”
“These guys are the real deal. Honest workers, take pride in repeat customers. Every receipt comes with a AAA "Rate your experience" card that goes straight to AAA. They are solid.
I had breaks and rotors replaced on my Subaru Outback, and a few other "this and that" things. Felt they did a great job, and feel I paid a fair price. In and out the same day.
The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is: the front office/check in area is a bit beat up. One thought is that they are too busy fixing cars to buff and shine the front counter. Fair enough.
Also, they have a loaner car for you to use if it is being used by someone else already. The thing is an old beater, but at least they have a free car to borrow!!
I will use them again, no question.”
“I had a great oil change and tire rotation experience with Steve's Tire and Auto. I accidentally called the Nicollet location first, but after I realized my error (meaning to call the 34th Ave. shop), I called back and they treated me kindly and respectfully. Without my intervention, they transferred my work order.
I did have one problem: after I brought the car home, the check engine light came on. They had me swing by the shop, where they quickly identified and fixed the problem. They apologized profusely.
Their rates are neither low nor sky high, but their proximity and friendly service mean they're my new auto shop. Thanks, Steve's Tire & Auto!”
